Other reviewers have covered the basics about ram, video, etc. and mine arrived as adverstised. I didn’t like the backpack, perhaps if I didn’t mind looking like I’ve got a parachute on my back but no, not for me. The gaming mouse is nice, I’m big handed and it fits me quite well and the software configurability is good.
Like others reviewers of ASUS laptops I almost gave it four stars for all the bloatware that came on the laptop. Spent quite a bit of time yanking junk off of it and I repartitioned the drives so each drive is one volume. Updating all the drivers was a bit of a pain but I regularly build desktops and servers so all this is not a big deal to me. There are some good web site lists out there that describe all the ASUS bloatware so you can figure out what’s what, just do a search on ASUS laptop software.
On the other hand, this laptop screams! I’ve had it for about a month and it handles everything I throw at it with no problems. During the day I write software and it handles running database servers, design tools and development suites at the same time with no sweat. Having 16GB of memory and Intel Quad Core 740 with the two large drives makes work a dream. The cooling system is truely inspired, even paying Crysis2 maxed out (which it handles quite well), the fans are quiet and all the heat is dumped out the back. Some have complained about the keyboard but I have not had any trouble with it so far and I’m pounding it 8-10 hours 5-6 days a week. Some have complained about the trackpad but I hate trackpads so I just disable it, which by the way, ASUS made quite easy to do since they wisely added the enable/disable trackpad as one of the Fn keys, very handy.
Of course it is big and heavy and if you are looking for long battery life then this one is not for you. But if you are looking for the most powerful laptop for the money then the ASUS G73 is a great choice.
